The increasing use of nonlinear analysis for soils, structures, and soil-structure interaction (SSI) has significantly improved predictions of the static and dynamic behavior of nuclear installations, while highlighting important challenges related to modeling approaches, computational methods, quality assurance, regulatory acceptance, and practical implementation.
This short course will review the current state of nonlinear analysis for nuclear installations, recent advances in numerical modeling and high-performance computing, and lessons learned from engineering practice. Particular emphasis will be placed on best practices, practical implementation, quality assurance, and the capabilities and limitations of current analysis methods.
The course will provide practicing engineers with the knowledge needed to select, perform, and critically evaluate nonlinear analyses for nuclear installations. It will also promote discussion among engineers, software developers, consultants, regulators, utilities, and facility owners to advance reliable, efficient, and scientifically sound methodologies for the analysis, safety assessment, and design of nuclear installations.
