Fracture Mechanics Assessment in support of nuclear power plant design and safe operation
Description
This training course focuses on fracture mechanics analyses performed in support of the design and operation of nuclear pressure equipment. These regulatory analyses are conducted to demonstrate the flaw tolerance of the main pressure equipment. They are carried out at the design stage and subsequently updated every 10 years during decennial reassessments.
The course covers the context and issues associated with Fracture Mechanics Assessment, the needs and the code development efforts undertaken to support these analyses, the form and nature of the criteria used for the assessment and finally the R&D activities conducted in laboratories in this frame.
A specific component is used as an example to illustrate the complete chain of this mechanical justification.
